Caffeinated soap

April 22, 2007

Too lazy to brew coffee?

Inventors have created a soap infused with caffeine which helps users wake up in the morning.

The soap, called Shower Shock, supplies the caffeine equivalent of two cups of coffee per wash, with the stimulant absorbed naturally through the skin, manufacturers say.

A friend of mine reviewed caffeinated soap last year when there was quite a bit of hoopla about it.

Linky.

Results were mixed.

“with the stimulant absorbed naturally through the skin”

This is a usage of the word ‘naturally’ previously unknown to me. If it works (which I am highly doubtful) then why isn’t this a regulated pharmaceutical application? Caffeine in this case has ceased to be a naturally occuring and generally recognized as safe constituent of food, but is now marketed as a pharmaceutical.

Caffeine pills have been available for years…
