Then he put the wife on the phone who vacillated between anger and sadness that she had just spent the money. Since it had only been mere hours since she had paid for the service, we allowed her to cancel. I'm sorry I wasn't clear in that - we wouldn't just take a random person's word for that!

Gasman, the husband called and explained the situation. What give you the right to dishonor your agreements with her? Unless this fellow had legal guardianship and could show the paperwork then you have to be wary of his potential misinformation or nefarious motives.

curious action on the part of ‘the doctor job’

You had a private contract with this woman, and someone claiming to be her husband nixes the deal for you? We did searches for her, gave her a price quote, and she signed up and paid. We started working on everything, and got a call from her husband that evening. He explained that his wife suffers from bipolar disorder and goes through this phase where she needs a new job, even though she's perfectly happy. Since he called the same day, we canceled the order, but if he had called a few days later or something, it would have been too late. It was bizarre!

We actually had a physician who called us in tears saying she wanted a new job. Since when is it an auto dealer's obligation to consider the psychiatric history of a customer? Tell me, if she is so ill that she cannot be held responsible for her acts, then ought she be committed to a custodial facility, even if against her will? (Presumably she wanted the car before she changed her mind.) And does she get to return all the other things she has bought while suffering from her illness? Does that include the groceries she consumed (I never would have bought and eaten that expensive chunky monkey ice cream if I weren't crazy.)

At some point, ill or not, people have to be held responsible for their acts. $444/ mo. for a CX-9 is a fair lease price; she would have to show the dealer hoodwinked her into signing an egregiously bad deal to have any weight to her claim. Wanting a better deal isn't a good enough reason. Demanding to be considered not responsible should open the door to her involuntary commitment.

That is just ridiculous.
