Statin box office

WSJ on the statin wars. Lipitor is in the lead, but losing ground. I normally prescribe simvastatin (for a potent statin), or pravastatin (if there is a history of muscle toxicity) first. Lipitor comes a distant third.

This seems a good time to link to Medpundit’s Lipitor analysis from last year.

Kevin, do you ever prescribe Crestor? I think I’d probably go for that before Lipitor if Zocor weren’t enough, given that it’s a bit more potent and has some effect on HDL levels… what’re your thoughts?
