Quarantined for life

March 2, 2007

The sad story of a man with multi-drug resistant TB who refused to follow precautions. He now is quarantined, possibly for life:

A young man sits in a locked room, windows covered, in the detention ward at Maricopa Medical Center, under sheriff’s guard.

He is not allowed a TV, a radio, a cellphone, a shower or visitors. A video camera catches his every move.

His floormates are criminals, including a suspect in the killing of a police officer.

He has been isolated here for eight months and is expected to remain much longer, perhaps until he dies.

But Robert Daniels is not charged with any crime. He has tuberculosis. And he is under court-ordered confinement because he violated the rules of voluntary quarantine, exposing others to a potentially deadly illness.

I understand imprisoning those who go out and infect others. But even murderers are allowed showers, telephone use once a day or so and TV. Why can’t he at least use TV and computer?

I agree, what’s with the NO tv, computer, books or anything? Sounds like he is in one of those SuperMax facilities – the ones that are slowly but surely driving the inmates mad. Why can’t this man talk on the phone? You can’t transmit anything that way! WHERE is this guy anyway? I’m ready to get on the horn about him. You don’t give his whereabouts — why not? I’m not even sure I believe this blog is true. (and that sure taints the other ones)

Well, shoot me in the foot – it’s true! and GUESS WHERE … Maricopa County … Home of Sheriff Joe. NO WONDER the poor guy is being treated like this … SuperMax Prisons are a cakewalk compared to Sheriff Joe! Let’s see – he’s Russian (half), he’s contagious and he’s in the care of Sherriff Joe. That poor soul. His ONLY chance is getting o 20/20 or 60 minutes.

Joe won’t let him go willingly – Joe’s an out and out sadist and to have a sick man under his total control like that? Well, I’ll bet he just gets a hardon thinking about the poor guy.

My Q is … when is someone gonna take out Joe? He’s worse than Don Corleone!
