Midwives don’t carry malpractice insurance

If something goes wrong, who gets sued? The OB/GYN of course – the one with “deep pockets”.

They do carry malpractice insurance in Washington state.

Don’t go confusing Kevin with facts. Considering that no OBGYN has been sued based on a midwife’s acts in the article he’s linked, it’s clear he’s only interested in propaganda. Truth – not so much.

I do the claims for a medmal insurance company in Washington state. The malpractice insurance for midwives here is provided through a joint underwriting association. The JUA is currently managed by Physicians Insurance in Seattle.

The original article said that malpractice carriers wont cover midwives because its not profitable.

But if midwives REALLY have a low lawsuit risk, then this doesnt make any sense.

Midwives must be a higher legal risk than what they would have you believe.
