The NHS is thinking about capping physician pay

Canada already has caps. Now the NHS is thinking about it. No comments about government-payer systems from me.

I’ve always been a big believer in a system that caps, or better yet shrinks, doctors’ pay but allows for an ever increasing pay scale for administrators. I believe the NHS may have found the perfect formula.

The beauty of a monopolistic single payer government run healthcare utopia at work again. Too bad their rate of year over year increase in per capita healthcare spending is outpacing the USA. What a shame! I guess they’ll have to go back to the drawing board or maybe just fleece the physicinas a bit.

You get what you pay for is evident everywhere but there. They wanted certain quality marks hit. The physicians met those marks and were rewarded appropriately and now they are pissed because they have to pay. When you take reward and incentives for productivity out of any equation you get a disaster. That is my main problem with changes proposed, especially with the one out of DB medical rants for paying physicians for time. That totally takes all incentive out of working hard. What would keep you from spending an hour for every patient? I can explain everything right down to the molecular level to every patient but it is not needed. If you start paying everyone the same and take away incentives for productivity you will get bankers hour mentality and people with no motivation to work hard.

This will surely attract the best and brightest….to investment banking! It is fascinating how China and Russia have essentially embraced raw capitalism, whereas the U.K. and U.S. have become more communist, especially the PRC (Peoples Republic of California)
