Fireworks in hand = Bad news

There is no question that the injury was terrible, but the fact is that the individual broke all the rules. You NEVER hold such an item in your hand. Fireworks must burn to function, and, therefore, they must be used properly and respected. Driving a car into a crowd is dangerous. Shooting a gun at people is dangerous. Using fireworks improperly is dangerous.

Maybe the appropriate medical response to this should be partnering with the National Council on Fireworks Safety to help get a good fireworks safety message out.
