Dermatologist: "Long wait times reduce unnecessary biopsies"

January 15, 2007

Hey, there must go some good to waiting months for a dermatology referral:

It’s just as well that there’s a long wait. Someone who comes in with a rash is likely to be biopsied and end up with a scar. If they wait until an appointment is available the rash will probably have cleared up.

The cheapest care is no care at all. Ever wonder how the human race has survived all these eons without modern medicine?

I’d use the term ’survive’ loosely Anon 12:14, the avg life expectancy of a Neanderthal was 20 yrs. I’d beg to offer that they would have lived longer w/ a trauma surgeon and well staffed ER near by.

Well, Long enough to sue the trauma surgeon and ER doc at any rate.

Actually the major contributing factors to increased life expectancy are improved sanitation (clean drinking water and such) and the reduction in many infectious diseases, particularly in childhood. High rates of childhood mortality tend to skew the life expectancy statistics downward.

Given that Neanderthals are extinct, there is reason to believe that Josh’s assertion would have prevented the survival of the fittest. So we must conclude that medicine has allowed the weak to survive and propagate, weakening the genetic pool, ultimately causing the extinction of the human race.

The evolution of our brains to a point where we can perform medicine is in itself an example of our fitness. People with money and better access to healthcare are more fit than those without this access to healthcare. So you see, America is too smart for most to realize. By creating this split of people with healthcare access, they are effectively carrying out survival of the fittest in favor of the wealthier and (idealistically) smarter citizens.

Canada is dumbing down our species.

Without the facetious tone here, I’d be a pretty strong advocate for eugenics.
