Anon 6:35
Good for you... My father is a Vet of Vietnam. He doesn't smoke But I think there several conditions that MM can assist in treating... Also Cannabis is probably the most productive agricultural resource that can be grown in an annual cycle.. you could make MDF that is stronger then current wood based (medium density fiber board). It's use of fiber for making rope or just about any other textile product is superior to most synthetics. And is easer on the environment. The oil has many applications including Bio-fuel. Paper the is made from hemp is far better in strength and quality to wood pulp paper. All of these are well researched and known facts. This is all aside from it's use as a legally prescribed drug.

Looks like a ghost-writen article by a DEA agent to me. The scenario he presents of a doctor having a "prescription party" seems wildly improbable to me, especially the low cost of just $50.00 for scripts for Vicodin and marijuana. It contains the inevitable reefer-madness scare scenario of people driving while drunk and stoned on medical MJ. The last part attacking "OLD FUCKEN [sic] REPULICAN DUMB FUCKS" seems calculated--spelling errors and all--to piss off conservatives, who are the ones most likely to support the DEA's campaign to erradicate medical marijuana. Beyond that, our alleged stoner friend seems just a little bit too informed about the operations of "weed stores" and Federal drug policy to be a casual user. In fact, this guy very conveniently manages to reinforce damn near every DEA myth about medical MJ without once mentioning that there are a lot of legitimate patients who benefit from it. Surely, someone as familiar with the scene as this guy supposedly is must have noticed a legitimate user or two in his travels.

My vote is for a fairly obvious and poorly written propaganda piece.(Note to propaganda dept: I find it really hard to believe someone would risk getting busted at an illegal "prescription party" if it is really that easy to obtain a year's worth of perfectly legal prescriptions for marijuana for $100.00. Similarly, doctors can legally charge anything they want to give you a script, so why would a doctor host an illegal party handing out scripts for chicken-feed? Please get your bullshit straight as some of us have trouble keeping up. Thank you.)

The law doesn't require that patients be terminally ill.

The law does require that doctors not write frivolous prescriptions in exchange for cash, however. The drug war argument is pretty pointless in this context.

It's also important since these Dr. Feelgood types tend to be vastly overrepresented among those prosecuted for prescribing MM. The drug legalization argument loses a lot of credibility when they're defending guys who'd deserve to lose their license even if there was no drug war.

Not to mention this piece admits what a lot of drug warriors have been asserting all along -- that the MM movement is a bunch of liars who're using the terminally ill as a cover for backdoor legalization. Not to mention all the bogus charities that are just recreational weed bars. You can be totally against the drug war and still find this stuff reprehensible.

The law doesn't require that patients be terminally ill. It allows marijuana use for quality of life issues such as back pain, glacoma and even for some psychiatric conditions.

Again you focus on the boogeyman and not the alcoholic sitting on your face. I'm not disputing the fact that people abuse opiates and other drugs.

But let's focus our energies on dealing with the big problems first instead of being all - OMG teh marijuana and vicodin will pwn us all!

You're welcome to argue that opiate abusers are more of a problem to society than alcohol abusers, but I feel that might be a tough position to take.

OH the wit anon 11:57! Did you read the article? The part about getting Vicodin's? Don't recall any "Reefer Madnees" scares about use of opiates and auto accidents. Given how many people are on multiple mood altering drugs in this country, it'll be interesting to see the stats sorted out when those are taken into account.

Please keep cluing us in on when you're being sarcastic. It's so difficult to track you brilliant rhetoricians.

You prosecute the DWI folks the same way that you do with the DUI folks. Decriminalizing possession and personal use magically does not morph into legalizing DWI. This is not a difficult concept to grasp.

I agree with anon 11:27. People can't be trusted to take drugs responsibly. Let's get prohibition restarted and dump all the alcohol into the sea where it belongs. No alcohol, no marijuana, no drugs. Responsible drinkers and responsible marijuana users should all be punished for the reckless few.

/end sarcasm

How many car accidents are caused by alcohol in the US?

"There were 16,694 alcohol-related fatalities in 2004 – 39 percent of the total traffic fatalities for the year."

And we're complaining about marijuana use? Why not deal with real problems instead of this "gateway drug" nonsense?

Will they take a "libertarian approach" to the issue when they drive their cars stoned and drunk into a diner or a school bus?

Perhaps it is because most people have realized that the the government propaganda of "gateway drug" and "Reefer madness" is so blatantly beyond anything that could be considered reality that the puritanical modern day Prohibitionists (and more importantly the positions they espouse) carry little weight. Toss in the colossal failure known as the "war on drugs" and there should be no surprise that there are some that are taking a libertarian approach to the issue.
