December 28, 2006

Its as sad as it is scary if this is accepted as ‘legitimate journalism’ . . .

‘legitimated journalism’ . . .

? ? ?

It’s called humour. Tongue in cheek. Any reasonable person….oh, that’s right!

Actually, it’s called “satire”. TV Nation and Moore’s later series The Awful Truth poked fun at the many foibles of corporate America as well as the 60 Minutes newsmagazine format. I especially liked the garbage barge and sodomy bus bits.

Now, if you’re offended by treating health care as an olympic competition, well, that’s really the point. Moore is saying that our priorities are seriously messed up: Health care has to be presented as sportstainment to get people to pay attention.

I’ll also point out that this show aired 12 years ago, so the issues it raises are bound to somewhat dated now.

Moore is reportedly making a movie about the American health care systme now called Sicko. It will be interesting, I’m sure.
