Strict guidelines that will eliminate many from adopting Chinese orphans:
Harrah’s said that under the new rules, any couple who had been divorced more than twice will be barred from adopting. Single people will be ruled out and only couples who have been married for more than two years will qualify. The age range for would-be parents will be limited to between 30 and 50.The new health conditions set a bar on adoptive parents who have a body mass index (BMI), a measure of how overweight a person is, of over 40, according to Harrah’s Adoption.
International health authorities advise that anyone with a BMI of 40 or above needs to lose weight immediately.
If either parent is taking medication for anxiety or depression, they will be disqualified, and no family can have more than five children in the home, including the child to be adopted, it said.

The reports I’ve read on this also say that folks who have “sever facial deformity” can not adopt. I am hoping that this is somehow a translation misunderstanding?
BTW I have a sister who has adopted three girls from China. I’m surprised China made these new rules. The dollars that were spent just on bribes to Chinese officials were over half the cost of the entire thing. They were called “administrative fees” or “document fees”, etc., but they had to be made in cash, and given directly to a varity of different gate keepers.
Well, I really know nothing about that….Tried to google the new regulations but only found that all related websites are ‘currently unavailable’…..Chinese government still have a lot to do to in ‘freedom of speech’ part.
FYI, Carol you should be grateful that all the bribes have a name…As Chinese the bribes we pay to the officials are necessary but never have a proper name…but don’t complain, it’s more than just corruption or anything, it’s just a bureaucracy kind of stuff left by the 2000 yrs of feudalism…alone with all other stuff that are still in a dominant position today. Maybe you can never get rid of it…
I saw the BMI, depression, age and other conditions, but didn’t see the “sever facial deformity” nor anything similar on the goolge search result page. I doubt it’s translation misunderstanding. In spite of all the bad things about Chinese officials, the central government is relatively much better. So I really don’t think they will make such a rule.
