The concept of using anesthesia techniques for execution is a little kinky to me anyway. Guillotine is about as quick, painless and foolproof as it gets, if that is what you want. Hanging, if done by protocol is pretty pretty much the same.

Simple IV.
IVs seem simple only for those who don’t do them. IV access can be quite challenging. Of all the procedures I perform as an anesthesiologist, none has a failure rate anywhere near the rate at which I fail to place an IV.
As far as the suffering part goes. It ain’t unconstitutional for the condemned if it falls within the realm of ordinary medical care. If it takes a half hour to find a vein, and the vein doesn’t work so well, with thrombophlebitis resulting, then that’s what they get. Thousands every day ‘suffer’ the same in order to gain the resulting medical benefits of IV therapy. Convicted murderers can suffer the same inconveniences in order to complete their sentence.

Not as long as the family of the next dirtbag due to be executed whose execution has now been postponed.
