When patients threaten to leave AMA

November 29, 2006

A urologist reports a bizarre case, which is reason enough to read. However, when patients threaten to leave AMA, they act as if this is some kind of threat against us. Trust me, it makes no difference to the doctors if they chose the path against medical advice.

That’s not true. In my ER, I usually hear the docs or nurses say “Thank God” or “Good Job” I talk so many people into AMA’ing the residents have to remind me it’s not considered a treatment decision. Why admit someone for a CYA bullshit admission that’ll cost thousands only to suck the lawyers dick when you can have them sign a form saying they’ll take the stupid risk. The funny ones are those frequent flyers whi yell at you “and don’t think you’ll talk me into signing out AMA”. I ain’t leaving!!
