That does sound awful.
Somewhat like how a patient feels when he/she receives a termination letter from the doctor, not because of anything specific, but because the Risk Management attorneys have identified said patient as a possible lawsuit risk and recommend all ties be severed.
Does the patient really want to sue? Has anyone even talked with him or her? Of course not, but better safe than sorry.
Bad days all around.
I send termination letters to patients that are drug seekers using “their kids pain” tying to get pain meds. Or if they are verbally abusive to the staff. And yes, to patients who threaten violence if they don’t get want they want. I work in peds go figure.
