November 24, 2006

Pfizer’s approach on this smoking cessation drug that is not covered by many health insurance plans. It goes for about $112 a pak (it comes at a starter month pak followed by two continuing month paks). About the same cost of a monthly supply of cigarettes.

I just started taking Chantix 5 days ago, but immediately I had nausea at work, and crazy dreams as soon as I closed my eyes at night until I woke up in the morning. I just can’t get a good night of sleep. I work a lot, and I value sleep like no other. I’m still smoking a few a day usually after work, hoping within the next day to quit.

I’ve been searching around for the last 3-4 days looking for information to sooth my mind about what has been “the worst dreams ever” the last few nights.

I want to quit smoking like no other, but I don’t think I can continue taking this drug, I’m seriously weighing the benifits already. My dreams are about my wife, and other people. They are intense, and sometimes scary and someone gets hurt, it’s very hard to even stop thinking about them after I wake up… I’ve absolutely never had dreams like this before, and I’m just about the most mellow guy you could meet. This drug is definitely messing with my head.

I’m wondering if the dreams, nightmares will go away after a week or two? Nausea I can deal with, but also insomnia with the dreams is a bit ridiculous. If this is something that doesn’t go away while taking Chantix I could see this being a serious problem for me.

I’m glad for everyone who took this drug and it worked for them. Please keep the real effects of this drug posted for all to read, it’s therapeutic to know your not alone if these things happen to you as well.
