Malpractice or dementia?

November 18, 2006

A doctor grabs a patient’s penis – his defense is fronto-temporal dementia:

Petrie was on medical leave within a week of the incident. The doctor is now retired and has been diagnosed with a rare form of dementia.

His son, David A. Petrie, said the “outrageous” incident was completely out-of-character and began the family’s quest to reach his father’s eventual diagnosis of fronto-temporal dementia. This illness hits younger, in the 40s and 50s, and presents with inappropriate behaviour such as making tactless comments, being rude, losing inhibitions or exhibiting sexual behaviour in public.
