It is one family and a greedy sodomite trying to take advantage of the system to try and gain a settlement. Maybe they were looking for 100K and figuring it wouldn't have gone to trial. Now it's dragging out and they're getting frustrated, thinking this would be easy pickings. Hopefully one of them (or the lawyer sodomite himself) will drop dead and there will be nobody around who knows CPR. Just desserts. This has nothing to do with medicine, DNR”s or medical malpractice. Any resentment toward them should not be expressed on innocent parties.<br/><br/>My uncle had a DNR in his chart when he was resuscitated while a nursing home resident (following a major stroke). Nobody sued anybody. It was a mistake. You investigate it, find out what happened, correct it and move on. This is one family doing a stupid thing. Perhaps they do not wish to deal with feelings of guilt over not visiting Nana. Maybe it is just greed for the money of the suit. Whatever it is, they don't give a damn what their actions do to the rest of the individuals around them, nor do they care whether they will adversely alter the relationship between docs attempting to deal with their patient's wishes. <br/><br/>This family needs to let their own lives rest in peace for a change. If the patient really did not have a DNR order and kept her advance directives to herself and did not request DNR status from her doctor, then she in fact wasn’t a DNR. Those things are not trivial matters; advance directives that include DNR status–and merely having an advance directive does not imply DNR status–is something that is copied and placed into the patient chart and then an order is also made. To claim it after the fact based on a document not shared is like keeping your wishes secret; not exactly the way to keep your doctors informed of your wishes.

This sounds like legal abuse and family greed.

Advance directives do not in any way equal a DNR! Yes, I agree that it is insane that a 92 year old with Alzheimer's did not have a DNR on her chart, but what could the doctor do once he was called that she had arrested?
