Buy art instead of MRI machines

Defending the NHS for spending vast sums of money on art and sculptures:

Unlike expensive equipment such as MRI scanners, which depreciate in value, carefully and shrewdly bought works of art are often a hospital’s only appreciating assets.

Maybe for a NHS hospital that is true, but unless the hospital were charging admission to a gallery where visitors could see their art collection, the smart money would probably be on the MR machine, at least in a fee-for service environment.
