. . . or giant cyst?

A doctor is facing a charge of professional misconduct after allegedly failing to recognise a patient had a giant abdominal cyst.

A tribunal heard he told her she was overweight and prescribed diet pills.

The 44-year-old mother was eventually taken to hospital in severe pain, where a 14.7kg cyst was discovered and surgically removed.

My own doctor has critized me for this attitude, but I learned long ago that all complaints have an anatomic or physiologic basis. Thus, in my practice, psychosomatic complaints do not exist. I just keep ordering tests.

Can someone explain why the abdominal ultrasound my doctor ordered did not result in any contact of the transducer with the right or left lower quanrants, or even the periumbilical region where I had pain?

The technician refused to go south of the umbilicus, or even to the left of the umbilicus where I am very tender.

Which untrasound should my doctor have ordered to have the right and left lower quadrants and umbilical region evaluated? I mean, that’s where she pushed and I jumped…
