Looks like they’re desperate for help down under:
“”Doctors are alarmed at reports that final-year students have been employed to fill medical workforce shortages and have at times been left without supervision and asked to undertake tasks that should only be performed by fully qualified doctors,” Dr Yong said.

Aussies have no-one to blame but themselves; as long as they AMA has closed the door so firmly against immigrant doctors (”Overseas trained” they call it) as they have, they are doomed to training their own.
And when that kind of attitude is combined with a litiginous environment second only to the USA, it’s no wonder they must try to press the young and innocent to do the doctor’s work.
“For those who came across the sea, we’ve boundless plains to share…” – but not for doctors, it would seem.
Where have all their doctors gone? Suffering from brain drain perhaps.
Australia welcomes skilled workers with open arms, especially IT experts. If you’re in this category, it’s easy to process immigrant visas. Just as Samson Isberg explained, for medical practitioners, it’s quite tough to enter.
