What's the average length of stay in the ER?
3.7 hours, according the a recent survey.Comments:
That number seems low.
Last night a gentleman came for chest pain. Wanted to "make sure that it wasn't his heart". However, he didn't want blood tests, or chest xray, etc.. After an explanation he consented but was too impatient to wait 45 minutes for the results and left without telling anyone. His cardiac enzymes came back positive! This is not Burger King folks.
Same night I walked into a room to introduce myself to a gentleman also coming in for chest pain. He arrested right at that moment. We did CPR, defibrillated him, and eventually revived him and managed arrythmias for the next 30 minutes. The gentelman on the other side of the curtain in the same room at the same time was complaining that he had not gotten his promised dinner yet.
