Except my opthamologist is the hardest working doc in show business.

Outstanding! After another 13 hour day, I really needed this chuckle!

Interesting he has a 10+ paragraph disclaimer, and it doesn’t cover plagarism.
The original was in the British Medical Journal (http://bmj.bmjjournals.com/cgi/content/full/331/7531/1529) which is now, unfortunately, paid-only. (I and several other bloggers linked this in December 2004, when it came out). There’s a copy of the flow-chart on my site.
Frankly, Dr. Rost should be punished, though reading his commenters is probably punsihment enough: Holy cow, what a lot of dreck in his comments.

Grunt Doc, you’re crazy and with a non existent attention span. Your comment proved it.
Anonymous
Well, Anonymous, let’s stipulate that some people think I’m crazy, and others believe I have a non-existent attention span.
I did miss the (poorly done for the internet) statement that it was from the BMJ. Mea culpa.
And it’s a paid subscription. The author, who should get credit, is Boris Veysman, New York University, New York, USA (boris.veysman{at}med.nyu.edu)

God, there is the rudest people that visit and comment on this site. People make mistakes all the time. Anon, you made a big one calling grunt doc crazy, and accusing him of not having any attention span. It is a unstable person who comes to web sites and can’t partcipate in a conversation without resorting to name calling. Whats wrong with “Grunt Doc, you made a mistake, please go back and read the article again?”
inattentive crazy
anon,
You are the one unhinged. They were merely commenting that grunt doc is an ER doc and “crazy” and “little attention span” were part of the algorithm. As a fellow ER doc, I am quite certain that Grunt Doc did not take any offense.
Crazy without attenion span.

anon 11:45,
Ok, I’m unhinged because I “don’t” call people names on web sites. You, on the other hand, are perfectly normal because you can rationalize such behavior. Got it! Thanks…:)

I thought I was “Nice”.

To Anon 1138, I am Anon 331 and I posted that comment. I am an ER doc and have been one for 20 years. I have been in the frontline for so long that I know that my comment would not offend him.

This is the dumbest thing I ever heard. I am a 17-year radiology tech and we are far from “not very hardworkers.” I lift people twice my size while getting them on the boards and place to place. This is most often done with no help. I have to take out all body piercings (not easy on some people) if they cannot do it themselves. I deal with drunks and druggies and THIS IS NOT AN EASY JOB!

Name withheld to protect the guilty
The dumbest thing I’ve ever heard was someone who read a funny bit about radiologists (the physicians), and thought we were insulting radiology techs.
kathy

kid16
lol im 16 and i wana be a doctor aswel .. but evry1 puts me of telling me its really hard..i dnt know what 2 do
UMDmed
Well Kid16, you have a choice to make. It’s true, it’s really hard, but no one said being a superhero and being entrusted to heal and save lives every day would be easy. In fact, it shouldn’t be. Which brings you back to your choice! Maybe if you have any relatives in medicine, sit down and talk it over with them.
