Thanks for nothing: When heroic actions are greeted with a malpractice lawsuit

May 17, 2006

From miracle to malpractice:

Her attorney, John Crongeyer, said Tuesday that Nonnie began having doubts about her daughter’s medical treatment while she was in a coma because “she kept getting different answers from different doctors.”

He said Nonnie Hawkins decided to file a lawsuit against the hospital and Nash after she got a copy of the autopsy that said her daughter died because of damage to arteries in her neck that cut off blood supply to her brain.

Jennifer Copeland, a spokeswoman for DeKalb Medical Center, said: “The doctors and the staff of DeKalb Medical Center were nothing short of heroic in the level of care and compassion given in this case. As caregivers who dedicate ourselves to sustaining life, we grieve with Nonnie Hawkins on the loss of her daughter. But we celebrate that despite tragic circumstances, Ms. Hawkins’ body was sustained for 115 days so that a beautiful child could enter the world.”

Let me guess: Millions upon millions of monetary compensation from doctors and hospital for the anguish and grieve the grandmother went through and death of her daughter all in the name of “justice”.

It is interesting to me that there is very little if anything in this article about the original attack that brought Ms. Hawkins daughter to the hospital.

Because we live in a day and time when life and death decisions are determined on either the amount of money the “providers” think you have,or the amount of insurance you carry, this mother no longer has her child. This baby has no mother. Was this human being given a short-term prescription resulting in a life ending side affect??
