“Initiation rites” seems to be commonplace in the UK:
Medical students and doctors in training say they are often subjected to bullying as part of an “initiation rite” into medicine.A recent BMA survey of medical students found one in four said they had been bullied by other doctors, while 16% had been bullied by nurses.
Staff grade doctors, associate specialist doctors and staff from overseas were particularly vulnerable to workplace bullying and harassment, the BMA said.
