A cerebral palsy malpractice verdict may bankrupt this small community hospital:

Tyrone Hospital said in a court petition filed Monday that it will declare bankruptcy or close its doors if a Blair County judge does not reduce a $4 million verdict awarded by a jury two weeks ago.

“If Tyrone Hospital were required to close, approximately 10 physicians currently maintaining offices in the community, including all physicians practicing obstetrics and gynecology, would close those offices,” the filing states.

The document came on the final day on which the hospital could challenge the verdict granting a 10-year-old boy suffering from cerebral palsy and his parents $4,002,000.
