Why aren’t drugs tested on pregnant women? The answer is so obvious, I thought the question was rhetorical:

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says pharmaceutical companies have not tested drugs on pregnant women for ethical reasons, and especially because they’re afraid of being sued if the fetus is harmed.

When I was in med school, one of my surgery attendings used to say “sick people ought to know better than to get pregant, and pregnant people ought to know better than to get sick”

Pregnancy is the last great void of medicine, and since it’s temporary and usually has a good prognosis, it’s not glamorous to study.
