...just to explain further, my son did not run a high fever, which I understand is usually present in such cases...
I see kids and adults all day long with fever, headache, nausea, vomiting. Most are nothing. Can't tap them all. Wouldn't want to tap them all. Sometimes it is a sixth sense to know when one needs to be done. Usually it is decision in the gray and parents ask if it really needs to be done. I answer "only if it is positive" once it is done. Most are viral and of no long lasting consequence, but you might feel really bad to miss that really bad case of bacterial meningitis the fortunately is decreasing in incidence due to improved vaccinations.
