I had a TIA in late April of 2005. My cardiac doctor who saw me at the hospital, and the neurologist who examined me during and after the TIA both said that the "hole in my heart" needed fixed. A number of health care professionals whom I consider dear friends have all said the same thing.

My problem #1...Insurance won't cover the PFO implant devices because they are not FDA approved. Sure, I was offerred a clinical trial, but in the cumadin portion of the study. Is there one that is FDA approved?

My problem #2...I am sure Tedy is a stand up guy and great player, but he is the second "celebrity" who has been "fixed." I have a wife, two boys, two cats, and a beagle. Even though I might not be as important to the world as TB, my wife is and my kids could be some day.

My husband suffered a stroke 8 years ago at age 42--due to PFO. Has fully recovered after surgery in 1998. Now I have 2 concrete reasons why a person who has had this terible experience can lead a GREAT life

The reason its on the internet is because Bruschi singed a HIPPA waiver allowing his records to be made public.

But until he did that, his records were supposed to be sealed. MGH has an electronic records program where doctors and other healthcare staff can look up patient records by logging into a system.

Each patient record has a log of who has logged in. If people are logging in who are not on Bruschi's healthcare team, quality control people notify hospital administration.

Curious that several staff members were fired for trying to look up his diagnosis, yet here it is on the Internet. Maybe they should have been sent to Guantanamo?

I'm also guessing that the "staff members" were not MDs, who were all no doubt freely discussing this among themselves.
