Bizarre non-medical news of the week: The “chicken choking” toy is coming under fire.

“A product description on the Web site of Jaycar Electronics, a major Australian importer of toy, says: ‘Grab him by the neck and he will squawk and cluck like mad, flapping his wings and feet wildly as if he is really being choked.’

But Michael Beatty, a spokesman for the Queensland state branch of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said the toy was ‘grossly irresponsible’ and sent the wrong message to young children.

‘What’s next? Burn a cat? Shoot a dog? . . . Children of that age are likely to turn around and try the same thing on their pet bird or even the cat or dog. Then they’re going to wonder why the animal fights back.”

Not to mention it promotes masturbation!

Back on the farm, we just chopped their heads off. It was considered a simple human competancy.

Good lord, if this man’s evaluation of his children’s propensities is correct, the state needs to intervene IMMEDIATELY! He clearly can’t be allowed to raise children, they will have to go to foster homes where the difference between pets and toys will be taught without bloodshed.

“Damn, someone beat me to the masturbation reference!”

That was my first thought when I saw the topic.

I see I’m not the only perv! :p

Should they also discontinue the Spank the Monkey toy? Children might get the wrong idea about corporal punishment. Not to mention the awful possibility of BDSM tots breaking into the monkey house at the zoo and having the monkeys object to being bottoms.

i think that dudre should get a life.

i mean come on, ive been subdued to worst sightings. i played gory video games at age 5.

this toy looks like fun and those who dont that can just ignore it.

Michael Beatty needs a life and also need to think that this decision should be up the parents who know their kids, not some dude who knows a few pussy children.

im planning on buying this for me and my kids ;)

Ooooh, don’t forget to ban pinatas in Mexico! All these mexican kids running around clubbing animals they encounter.

Catch yourself on.

Dude, SERIOUSLY. This gives me great ideas for a whole line of toys, and they just keep popping in to my head!

1) Bum Fire. An nice hobo doll , kerosine and matches INCLUDED!

2) Strange Fruit. Now your kids can have fun and reenact historical events as they suppress civil rights workers efforts to enfranchise blacks voting rights. Includes rope already tied in noose — just add trees and some friends!

3) Old Yeller. Just a shot gun. Yellow dog not included.

4) Mystery Date 2. “But I bought that bitch dinner, daddy!” Now your son can practice for his first date with a life size doll that will repeatedly deny his clumsy sexual advances. Fully anatomically correct, this doll will even beg him to stop when he commits his first date rape!

5) Pocket pool. Just a book on the “toy” all boys come with. Fun to play with friends!

Dude, these toys I came up with are HILARIOUS. And they won’t send the wrong message to my kids, because I checked — THEY KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CHICKENS AND TOYS, and they AREN’T PUSSIES!

….

but in all seriousness. While I don’t think there need to be laws prohibiting stuff like this, anyone who would give this to a child is simply not being a responsible parent.

If you played gory video games at 5, your parents pretty much dropped the ball. I’m sure you came out relatively ok, except that you think a toy that is limited to choking a proxy for a living thing to death is an acceptable thing to give a child.

Hope everything works out ok with your kids,

love,

illovich

I’m in total agreement with the latter 1/3 of illovich’s post.

I’m not a moral authority, but crap like this makes me ashamed to be lumped in with the rest of these ‘humans.’

Jaycar Electronics clearly says in their AD October 2005. (”not recomended for children”)If someone wants to give it to a child, Jaycar’s responsibility ends at POS. Some groups need to stop trying to raise other peoples kids. Mine knows the difference between a live animal and a hillarious toy. He also knows what is funny and when.

P.S. I am ordering 2, one for me and one for the mini-me

I personally think that this is not an appropiate toy for any live creature, especially a human being. Find a cure for cancer, or use your time wisely finding ways to keep the environment clean and healthy. Obviously you are creatively talented so use the sense and brains that God gave you for the betterment of society as a whole, not bank on its destruction.
