It's not lack of compassion, it's simply not possible to give great care to all my patients because I have too many patients. I would never allow a member of my family to stay alone in a hospital following a surgery, or if they were in any way incompacitated. It's sad, and wrong, but it's what we have to deal with on a daily basis. But, don't blame the nurse, blame the system.
