To reduce wait times in Canada, some want the government to pay for treatment internationally if timely service cannot be done at home

“Canada’s medical establishment says the key to eliminating waiting times for crucial medical procedures is to promise patients that if they can’t be treated promptly close to home, their treatment will be paid for in another province, in the United States or even in Europe.

To that end, the Wait Time Alliance is calling on the federal government to create a $2-billion Canada health access fund to reimburse the cost of out-of-province and out-of-country care for patients whose treatment is not provided within established medically acceptable waiting times.”
