I'm guessing that Frist, or a close family member, has been diagnosed w/ a disease that could be treated/ cured if stem cell reseach is successful, and that survival self-interest has trumped politicalself interest. Judging by Frist's past behavior, that's what makes sense to me.

Frist's family is heavily invested in the Healthcare system (United Healthcare) he probably stands to benefit financially from Stem Cell research. Not that I'm complaining, with a physician as president (hopefully) maybe we can pass malpractice reform someday and get back to practicing medicine!
