A new study - 4 different headlines
A study about perioperative beta-blockers came out in the NEJM. Here are some articles showing divergent headlines:Study: Beta Blockers Don't Help All
Beta blockers don't help people with low heart risk after surgery
Beta blockers and surgery not a good mix?
Cardio Drugs May Prevent Surgery-Linked Heart Attack
Here is the real conclusion:
Perioperative beta-blocker therapy is associated with a reduced risk of in-hospital death among high-risk, but not low-risk, patients undergoing major noncardiac surgery. Patient safety may be enhanced by increasing the use of beta-blockers in high-risk patients.
Comments:
My husband was a 0 to 1 risk & the actual exclusions & inclusions list to be in study wasn't even followed.
The perioperative inclusion criteria should have been by a cardiologist & instead the vascular dr. made up his own list - In ref to the surgury the patient developed bradycardia, lung collapse, acute mycardial infarction, kidney failure & no use going into the rest of the horrible outcome.
They are using people as guinea pigs & still putting people in the study with low risk catagory.......
