Canada publishes guidelines for wait times

This news items is as good as any to point out the virtues of a collectivized health care system.They even have guidelines for how long you have to wait.The fact that Canadians who can afford to come south for medical care also is instructive.

How does one achieve significant reductions in wait times? You have to either work harder and longer, reduce the number of patients seen, increase staff, or spend less time on each patient. Unless healthcare staff are being lazy and avoiding work, I don’t see where there is room to shorten wait times. There are only so many hours in a day and not a surplus of unemployed healthcare workers. The only practical solution would seem to be to spend less time on each patient, which is what everyone complains about in this country. Canadians should have a counter to this bill proposing that the government tax it’s citizens less and find more efficient operation of it’s functions.

First off, I should point out that that article comes from the Toronto Sun, which is hardly a pillar of journalistic acumen. So take it with a grain of salt.
Second, I find this statistic pretty compelling:
Americans without health coverage: 43.6 million
Canadians without health coverage: 0

In short, I’ll take waitlists instead of leaving 15% of our most needy citizens behind. Canada doesn’t have it right, but I prefer our shortcomings to America’s.
