You can't win: The FDA is taking heat for overreacting with the Elidel warning
"This is absurd beyond imagination - not every drug is Vioxx; and the enormous evidence that was presented to the FDA demonstrated the safety of these [drugs]."

Comments:
FDA these days is clearly cautious about reviewing drugs after Vioxx disaster. They lost public confidence from that one incident.

It seems to me that doctors working for FDA drug reviewing and the head of FDA are not on the same page and that is a big problem.

People reviewing the drugs exactly know what to excpect from a particular drug including some dangerous side effects. Sometimes these side effects outweigh more than its benefits and that whoever reviewed the drug, has to honestly address his/her opinions.

Sometimes it could be a warning.

Whoever oversees the whole drug review process has the power to say "Yes" or "No" and this means business, mucho $$$$$$!

I just can't shake a notion that someone who has a tremendous authority power at FDA gets influenced by pharmaceutical companies.

I sometimes see some TV drug commercials in that it lists far more side effects than benefits.

If a drug has one benefit but it has 8 side effects and some of them could be serious to some people, what's good about taking it?

And who gave it a go?

I can imagine a script like this...

" You know Dr.X, this is a good drug. It will help people relieve pain, fast!.....yes,it has some side effects....several side effects, but you know,it's not gonna kill people or anyhting. We are here to try to help people with pain. But, we are also in business and I hope you understand that. We're talking about big,big business here. We'd like to show you a good appreciation if you give it a go."
