why can’t the husband just let her parents have her? He wants to go on with his life anyway. so just let her and her parents deal with what is left????

In answer to Anonymous question: There is always the possibility that the husband is truely making a substituted judgment, truely based on words spoken to him by his wife Terri when she was mentally competent. In this event, it would be wrong to abandon her at this time when the family, perhaps out of their own self-interest, disagrees and if left to them would not follow her request. Have we reached a time in medical ethics and law when we are to destroy the concept of patient autonomy? ..Maurice.
