Overmedicating the Elderly

A new study from the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society states that almost one in three seniors are receiving medications "deemed potentially inappropriate for older people".

Medicines on the list included antispasmodic drugs and propoxyphene. Several solutions to the problem are mentioned, all centered around good communication between doctor and patient, and knowledge of drug side effects in the elderly.

Comments:
My Father 83 I believe is over medicated. He complains of shotness
of breath, weakness, almost daily
and dizzeness from time to time. He has been taking two different
Hypertension pills
along with a blood thinner for several years. Along with Arthrites
pills, prostate, and anti indegestion pills. As of latley he's added to his redgimate nuelasta for sleeping and methadone for pane, and some other pill for anxiety. He's a frail 83 year old man who has a hard time metabolizing his on food much less all these drugs every day. What do you suggest.
