Vytorin and the license to eat

Vytorin is a cholesterol medication that combines Zetia and Zocor. Yes, I know the point of the DTC ad campaign is to show the two sources of cholesterol (yes, food and genetics - we get it).

The first thing that came into my mind when I saw these was, "Take this pill and I can eat as much eggs and cake as I want." Am I the only one?

I had a heart attack in July and my cholesterol was very high. Was vein was blocked completely. My blood pressure was high and I was diagnosed with diabetes. I am on beta and alpha blockers, diabetes medication, and initially lovastatin. At my request, I switched to Vytorin. My cholesterol is down to 123. My diabetes is under control. I do not eat eggs because I like Egg Beaters omelettes. But I do eat lamb, beef, pork, ham, chicken and turkey in moderation, as well as cheese. Once a month I go to Shoneys for the breakfast buffet and have eggs, bacon and sausage. I also eat whole wheat breads. I make my own soups and watch my sodium and sugar intake, although I eat desserts on occasion. Jim, Nashville

How long have you been on Vytorin? I had taken Lescol and developed muscle pain so went off of that, tried diet alone and lost 13 pounds but my cholesterol went up so dr just put me on Vytorin. Have you had any side effects? Just curious and cautious.

I switched from 20MG of Zocor to 10 mg Zocor + 10 mg of the component in Vytorin about 4 months ago. My LDL cholesterol was never better. More than that, my libido was almost as good as it ever was, my muscle pains disappeared and B.O. returned after disappearing since I was put on the 20mg of Zocor originally.

The Vytorin has apparently restored my hormones to the level they were orignally (after having been taking the 20mg of Zocor for the past 5 years previously).

Merck doesn't have a "Contact Us" link on their website. But they need to know that the Zocor (at the higher dose of 20mg) screws up your body while halving the Zocor dose and adding the 10mg of that other stuff to kill the cholesterol that's produced from the stuff that you eat does a much better job than the straight Zocor at twice the Simvastatin dosage.

Vytorin has been very successful for me. My total cholestrol has been lowered by 60% and I have no apparent side effects. The advertisements really bug me! How can I possibly inherit anything from my aunt?

I took Lipitor 20mg for two years and developed muscle pain, a liver function test indicated above normal results. I am now switching to 10mg Vytorin. I hope this works for me with no side effects.
