Other uses of Viagra

Other than erectile dysfunction, Viagra has been studied in the treatment of pulmonary hypertension. Today’s Annals of Internal Medicine presents a small study showing Viagra increased exercise capacity both in normal and high altitudes, suggesting a possible use in managing acute mountain sickness or other conditions caused by low oxygen levels at the alveoli.

I remember learning about these trials in the spring. Apparently a major study of primary pulmonary hypertension is underway.

I scoured the article you cited for a trace of humor and found only this:

“Other effects of sildenafil that are unrelated to its impact on the pulmonary circulation may have contributed to our results.”

Is this their way of saying exercise tolerance goes up because the workout acquires some psychological significance?

I read an article that Viagra also increases sperm motility. I posted about it here.

This is turning out to be one handy little drug, aside from the obvious.
