How do you practice for hot dog eating contests?

So, this guy has been breaking hot dog eating records for the past 4 years. Today, he ate 53 1/2 hot dogs in 12 minutes to break his own world record. I’ve always wondered how one practices for something like this. Anyone have any predictions on what kind of health problems he’s going to have in the future?

Good question, Kevin. GERD? Motility disorders? Impaired sense of satiety? Beats me, but I’m posing the question to readers at blogborygmi and lingual nerve.

    PTSD.

I would imagine that any ill health effects are more likely to result from the food content, and not the (insane) mechanics of consumption. Plus, if we assume that he engages in these events on a rare basis (annually? semi-annually?), the damage may not be that significant.

I agree with what you wrote on your site Nick – I defintely would like to see a lipid panel on him. He’d make a nice pitchman for Prilosec.

Apart from obesity, hyperlipidemia and GIT disorders like the ones you have mentioned, I would like to think out that most of the persons even participating in these kinds of competitions must be out of their minds. I could try putting him through a therapist to see what kind of problems he has got.
