You are in for the ride of your professional life. It has absolutely changed the way I practice and the way I enjoy practice. The earlier comment someone had about learning all you can before going live is good advice, but it's a lot like Windows, you never really learn it all. It is a superior product and while there are people who might not like it, the reason usually is user error of some sort. Feel free to email me at drmorrow@nffm.md if I can be of any help at all. I have also started a blog for HealthMatics users (it's brand new)and will get the address to you soon. Best of luck!!

Kevin, I have been using the HealthMatics EMR for 6 years next week. You are in for the ride of your professional life. But from my personal experience with my primary care doctor last year, PLEASE don't be rude and ONLY look at your laptop, entering in information while you're eliciting a history from a patient. It's so absolutely rude. My doc ended up getting eye contact with me for about 30 seconds of a 10 minute visit. Just something to keep in mind...

These laptops are great. The IT recommended bolting them down to a cart or something.

From the EHR talk I went to, they recommended AGAINST taking laptops with them–they tend to walk off, and they tend to get dropped. Both are rather similar, but we have a Mysis system for billing already, and wanted to avoid compatability issues. The learning curve is steep, so you'll want to familiarize yourself with the system as much as possible before going live.

Galen

We’re in the process to switching to a Mysis EMR system, though we looked at the A4 platform.
